Foods that help you sleep

We all know the benefits of sleep.

The most anabolic thing we can do to promote longevity and thriving healthy bodies, plus it's free.

But what about the foods we are eating , can they help us sleep better?

Well 100% they can. Sticking away from processed foods of course is the first thing we should focus on, but there are certain foods that can help with ensuring we get a good night of zzzzzzz.

So let's break down these foods and why they can help:

1- Cherries

In particular sour cherries. Tart cherry juice is my favorite with research showing it to produce natural melatonin within the body (our sleep hormone ) . It also has many other health benefits as well. Have a small serving 30 mins prior to bed each night .

2- Bananas

I know right your probably thinking aren't they a energy boosting food. Well believe it or not they can help us sleep. They contain vitamin b6 which raises serotonin levels (relaxing neurotransmitter) along with potassium and magnesium which help relax our nervous system. It also contains tryptophan which converts into serotonin and melatonin .

3- Pineapple

One study showed a 266% increase in melatonin levels in test subjects after pineapple was consumed . Also great for digestion as it contains the bromelain.

4-Avocado

high in magnesium which is a natural relaxant and helps to deactivate adrenalin.

5- Kiwi fruit

High in anti oxidants, vitamin c and serotonin kiwis can help relax the nervous system while the high levels of serotonin can help produce levels of melatonin within the body

These of course are just all natural foods that can help with sleep.

Supplements are another option but before you go supplement route, try these foods first.
